If you are planning an RVing trip to North Carolina, here are some spots where you can experience the satisfaction of thrill and adventure. If you have a great desire to leave the frontier of the city for a relaxing and rejuvenating mountain getaway, there is no better travel destination than Asheville.

Located in Hendersonville, Asheville is the main city in the western part of North Carolina. The allure of this city is becoming widespread and now it has been tagged as the Paris of the South. The area is filled with plenty of fascinating attractions from national parks to historical sites and nature tripping activities. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful passage that travels through the mountains that is a convenient way from the north of Hendersonville. Tagged as “America’s Favorite Drive”, this parkway is 469 miles of roadway that will lead you to several scenic mountains in the United States. Along this National Parkway, you can just resist to make a stop over to visit the Folk Art Guild, located along the roadway, where you can buy crafts and other items made by the native people in the city.

Along the way to North Carolina, you can reach the Nantahala Outdoor Center that provides different river rafting adventures. You can have a stop and try river rafting activities in the Nantahala River, an enjoyable way for adventurous RV travelers to relax, unwind and rejuvenate from the unstoppable trips. The rivers range is quite difficult, but Nantahala offers great guides especially for the beginners for them to enjoy the nature. While enjoying RVing, you can also unwind yourself and take a little look at the rich history and culture of North Carolina. You can visit Old Salem Town, an old museum located within the reestablished community of Winston-Salem in North Carolina. You can take note on different highlights of this old town that include Salem
Tavern, St. Philips Moravian Church, Home Moravian Church and Salem Square.

You can also try to take a snap within the panoramic view of the famous Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Within this trail, you can hike the breath taking 4600 foot Max Patch Mountain. On this hike, you walk to Max Patch and then get through the Appalachian Trail, North to Lemon Gap to feel the grassy summit with glorious and scenic views. A great picnic site, this place is just a short walk from the parking lot. Because of its romantic scenery, no doubt that Appalachian Max Patch is a great and unique place to propose. To travel the entire city’s perpetual coast of attraction, make your way to the Carolina Beach State Park. Located at the southern part of North Carolina, it is a great choice among camping destinations. Its main location near the water that provides not only for several beach and water activities, this place has a lot more to offer than the usual oceanfront park.

Few miles of hiking trails will lead you to a bird and wildlife habitat with distinct types of animals. Extending into the Atlantic Ocean, another highlight of North Carolina is the Outer Banks. These group of islands offer lots of recreational activities that you can enjoy upon traveling in your RV. You can find the Jockey’s Ridge State Park that features the highest sand dunes on the costal areas or the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, a wildlife park and maritime forest destination.

An RVing trip would not be complete without a stop at the Biltmore Estate, the most popular attraction in Asheville. Owned by Vanderbilt family, this county estate offers a tour of the Biltmore House, Biltmore Gardens, the River Bend Farm, winery, restaurants, and a hilarious 8000-acre backyard where you can stay and enjoy. Motorhome or Trailer

April 14th, 2011 by admin

Motorhome or Trailer that is the question for you.  Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of both, so you will be confident when purchasing an RV. When comparing Rvs a motorhome or a travel trailer, should you buy a motorhome or fifth wheeler? The advantages and disadvantages of both studied so that you can make your choice wisely when purchasing an RV. Possessing a motorhome is an achievement of a lifetime. It can be similar to sojourning with your residence as you search the various sites of our great land, America.

The two commonly known rv classes are the motorized and towable. Towable rvs are the travel trailers and the fifth wheelers. The rv travel trailer or fifth wheel has the attraction of getting towed by a pickup or a car, thus giving the adaptability of possessing transportation for you when you are parked at your campsite.  For helpful tips on everything from A to Z you need to check out RV Education 101.
This site will help you make excellent decisions and make your rving experience exactly what you would hope for so check is out…

A motorhome is a recreational vehicle that is motorized. It has three categories which can either be gas, diesel or Diesel Pushers which are the most costly ones. Converted vans that are huge and self-sustaining represent the smaller types of motorhomes and then there are the ones that are built on the chassis of a truck.  The motorized motor home needs a tow car for your transportation after you set up in your campsite.

Rvs are styled to your specifications for the best appearance and luxuries you anticipate when possessing an rv. High standard artisanship, venues for entertainment, and keenness to small bits of information can be applied into an rv bearing in mind that each and every amenity comes with a price tag.

A travel trailer or fifth wheel is larger than a motorhome of the same size because of the driving area, i.e. a 40 foot trailer or fifth wheel has more livable space than a 40 foot motorhome. Towing a trailer with a car puts a lot of wear and tear on the automobile because they are usually not equipped for heavy duty towing.

The motor home is definitely more money because you are paying for the driving mechanism and chassis. Trailers and motorhomes can be equipped with the same options. So the question seems to be do I want to travel in a truck pulling a large fifth wheel or ride in a motorhome pulling a tow car. One thing is certain if you talk to a motorhome owner he will tell you that you should definitely purchase a motorhome and the same goes for a travel trailer or fifth wheel owner, he thinks the trailer is the only way to go.   No matter what you choose the experiences are out of this world.
Go rving.

Passive Solar Energy

April 14th, 2011 by admin

Passive Solar energy is an alternative energy that uses heat from the sun to produce renewable electric power. Passive solar energy is utilizing heat an object which releases it at a later time when the sun is no longer available without using electrical and mechanical means such as fans and pumps. Passive solar energy solutions work for the office, home and recreational vehicles (RV) or motor homes.  Passive solar energy uses the roof, walls, windows and other panels that are placed in optimal places to gather the sun’s energy.

How does  passive solar energy work? Solar energy is captured from the sun and works in different ways.   It may be captured from the sun by a liquid panel for heating water, gas filled panel for heating the interior of the building, photovoltaic cells for generation of electricity, and passive solar heating which acts to store heat.

Passive solar energy works by converting the heat into electrical energy through the use of photovoltaic cells and stored in batteries or by directly storing the heat for distribution to places when it is needed.  Therefore, passive solar energy utilizes highly efficient materials, design, and earth sheltering to collect and distribute heat.

For motor homes, the use of solar panel energy is highly recommendable.  Here, heat from the sun collected by efficient solar panel energy or photovoltaic cells is converted into electricity by chemical means.

There are solar flexible panels built for recreational vehicles and motorboats.  They are lightweight, portable and versatile so they are very popular for campers and outdoors persons.  Moreover, they are flexible and can be rolled up, which makes them suitable for camping, vacation and fishing trips.

Dry camping is not having an alternating current (AC) flowing through the motor home and using only appliances and amenities which do not require AC. So, when they are dry camping RV owners can either go with limited use of their appliances or they can still use them fully if they have solar panels installed in their vehicles.

Solar panels can be as thin as 0.66 mm and mounted on the roof. Panels are mounted with brackets that are designed to fit the vehicle’s roof. There should be 2 – 6 inches space between the panel and the RV roof.  This is for ventilation purposes.

The space needed for solar panel energy actually depends on the number of appliances that will be used and for how long.  The energy requirements should be considered before buying a solar panel.  For example, the power requirement needs to operate an electronic device as simple as a laptop is different from that as operating a fan.

With today’s improved solar panel design and materials, there is no limit to the places where you can spend your vacation.  As long as there is sunlight you will have energy provided for you.

When you plan to use your motor home loaded with solar panels, the best season for camping is summer. Preferably try not to go on vacation and camping trips during continuous rain or heavy snowfall to be able to utilize and enjoy to the optimum your solar panels.

Recreational Vehicle with Clean Dump

April 14th, 2011 by admin

What we really need is an easy and less messy way to connect and disconnect when we stop.   The Clean Dump meets all of this and more.  Just like the name implies it is clean.  The waste is ground up and discharged thru a 1” internal diameter hose.

Rving has come a long way in the last 50 years.   In the sixties we started with a tent then rapidly graduated to a travel trailer.  Now four motorhomes later we are full time rvers and loving every minute of it.  Recreational Vehicles have all the modern conveniences that you can think of, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, garbage disposals, dishwashers, side by side refrigerators, plasma Tvs, computers and the list goes on and on.  Rvs have multi slide outs now that give you lots of room when you stop.

Campgrounds love Clean Dump because there is never any mess.  The sewer dumps at campground sites are never the same.  Some are in the ground, some on top of the ground and some are 4 to 6 “ high.  It is quite a problem to get waste water to flow up to these high connections.  No problem with Clean Dump as the discharge is pressurized and flows easily.

Just think how nice it would be not to have to carry around all the extra sewer hose and fittings.  You can even dump at your home in your sewer clean out drain or your toilet.

With Clean Dump there is never any need for a drain hose support.  What a chore it was to try to level up our old drain hose.  You can get your Clean Dump at Camping World, the place for all you rving supplies.

Traveling with Children

April 14th, 2011 by admin

Children love Rving, seeing new places and meeting new friends that they will cherish for a lifetime.  Telling their classmates what they did this summer, what an experience for a young mind.

Children like activities where lots of running and jumping activities are involved. If the activities happen to be done in the great outdoors, they will have endless fun.

To go camping with kids, rving with them or just plain traveling in a motor home demands more attention than when only adults are on the trip, making a camping checklist for kids is a very helpful task before going away in your motor homes or travel trailers.

Some of the items in a camping checklist for kids are kids foods and snacks, sleeping bags, pacifiers for tots, extra warm clothing, jackets, mosquito and insect repellents, first aid kits, toys, puzzles and games, sunglasses and sunscreen.  Kid’s camping gears consist of flashlights and night lanterns, mats and ground cover, and backpacks. And don’t forget lest you will regret it later. Planning the things for kids to do is very important and will save you a lot of time later.

What can kids do? They can do various outdoor activities.  They can go rock hunting; examine the different leaves and barks with a magnifying glass you provide for the purpose. It is always advisable however to make sure that there are no poison ivies and plants or harmful insects which can cause them harm.

When it’s about time for a campfire the kids can go look for small dried branches and twigs. For older children they can use their knives to cut shrubs and make a clearing. Sometimes unplanned and spontaneous activities and games are the things the kids will remember most.

While traveling inside the RV or motor home, the kids can keep them self’s busy and play with the games you brought along. You can ask them to make their own games like alphabet spotting (where they are to call out names of things starting with the letters of the alphabet.

A craft that would make them very busy is beading. They are to design their own necklaces, bracelets, and custom jewelry from beads and semi precious stones.  They can do this during dull moments of the trip.

When there are points of interests and new places for them to discover, it would be very helpful if you could tell them something about the history, legend or stories related to these sites. They will surely carry these wonderful memories with them for a life time. Even ordinary games such as football, soccer, basketball and baseball when played in different circumstances will give the kids something to tell their classmates when they get home
